Want to Focus Better at Work? It’s Easier Than You Think.
Multitasking can be great. As the father of an 8-month old, I definitely do my share of that! From parenthood to office life, multitasking is something that we all have to get used to. But there are times at work when a deadline is looming, a key initiative is at risk, or a time-sensitive request has come in and you need to buckle down. That’s when you want to clear away as much distraction as you can — and focus on what you really need to work on.
That’s a big part of why we created the new Redbooth desktop app, which enables you to manage projects and collaborate in your team without going anywhere near your browser. I lead the team here at Redbooth that developed the desktop app — so it’s no surprise that I use it all day, every day myself!
With the desktop app, you can really focus. For example, because I now run Redbooth separate as a desktop app, I’m not switching between tabs. And that means I’m not going through 20 different tabs trying to find my Redbooth tab.
Here are 3 ways that you can use the new Redbooth desktop app to focus better at work:
1. Give yourself a break from distractions
When you’re in an open office, there’s no shortage of distractions, with colleagues stopping by to chat…and the occasional Nerf gun battle. And then of course there are the distractions on your computer — if you have an internet connection, you’re going to have access to things like Facebook and ESPN.
When you truly need to focus better at work, the desktop app can give you an extra edge by making the online distractions less accessible, minimizing their effect on your workday.
If you’re serious about your work and serious about getting things done, you can use the desktop app to get out of your browser and accomplish more. (When it comes to the Nerf gun battles, you’re still on your own!)
2. Reduce browser crashes and slowdowns
From a technical perspective, when you’re living in your browser, you’re probably opening multiple tabs and going to different sites. And each of those sites may be loading different resources, potentially slowing down overall computer performance and affecting your Redbooth experience in the browser as well.
When you use the desktop app, you don’t have to worry about crashes or issues in other browser tabs directly affecting your Redbooth performance. You’re also less likely to open tab after tab as a new idea strikes you, which will help you get more work done and avoid slowdowns.
3. Start your day off right
How does your morning start at work? For many of us, we have trips to the water cooler, we go to get another cup of coffee, we look at the link or news article that someone has sent us in our browser.
I’ve learned that a huge part of becoming more productive is starting off on the right foot. So by setting the Redbooth desktop app to start automatically right when you boot up your computer, you can really kickstart your day, starting with the way you manage your time and your key priorities.
When you can automate any element of your morning routine, that’s going to give you an extra edge — with minimal effort on your part.
Are you a Mac or a PC?
Many of the teams that use Redbooth have a mix of operating systems. Some people love using Macs, some people love using Windows. Today the app is available for Mac and Windows, and we are in the late stages of testing and validating a Linux version as well.
You never have to worry about whether using different versions of the app will be confusing. Everyone can just download the version that runs on their operating system and continue to collaborate easily with their team members.
If you’re at another computer, you can also always still log in to the browser version — any changes you make there will translate to the desktop app too. And of course you can use the iOS and Android apps as well. Everything syncs across devices, and that includes your desktop app.
What does it take to get started?
If you’re discovering the Redbooth desktop app for the first time here in this post, you might be wondering, “How much does the desktop app cost?” or “What do I have to do to try it out?” Those would be some of my questions if I were reading about the app for the first time.
I’m happy to say that the desktop app is free to all Redbooth customers! So the only requirement that we have today is that you need to have a Redbooth account. All you have to do is download the app, then log in with your Redbooth credentials and use it.
From the entire team that developed the desktop app, we want to say that whether you’ve got an energetic 8-month-old to keep an eye on or a last-minute request from the C-suite to fast-track, we’re glad to be able to make you and your team even more productive.
